The brainchild of the Wildlife Garden Project CIC, the Wildlife Garden Directory was developed to make it quick and easy to find a local wildlife-friendly gardener, designer or landscaper to help create a haven for both people and nature. At the same time, the directory is a means to promote and celebrate gardening businesses that use wildlife-friendly methods, and connect them with customers in their local area.
Having signed up the moment the directory launched, garden designer Sophie Parmenter who along with Dido Milne of CSK Architects, has designed the National Autistic Society garden for the Chelsea Flower Show in May, said: “There are approximately 520 thousand hectares of residential garden in urban areas of Great Britain. They offer a unique opportunity to provide vital habitat for our wildlife. The Wildlife Garden Directory makes it easy for anyone, no matter the size of their garden, to find a gardener, designer or landscaper who can help to transform it into a vibrant, living space that can be enjoyed by all its inhabitants, human or otherwise.”
The Wildlife Garden Project CIC (Community Interest Company) was founded in 2010 by filmmaker, Laura Turner, Tina Lindsay and Tom Shields. The aim was to provide the information and inspiration to help people make their gardens more wildlife friendly. The small team works to make wildlife gardening the norm by increasing awareness and making information accessible to everyone through our films, articles, projects and campaigns.
The Wildlife Garden Directory will enable and encourage more gardeners to think about their gardening methods and ultimately change them to more wildlife friendly methods.
