Accounting for over 8,200 businesses across the world, B Corp is a movement with an aim of meeting high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.
In order to obtain the certification, a company must satisfy a number of criteria, which entails conducting a thorough evaluation of its effects on all stakeholders and undergoing verification of this assessment by B Lab. B Lab is the nonprofit network behind the BCorp movement, which aims to transform the global economy to benefit all people, communities and the planet.
To achieve certification, a company must:
- Demonstrate high social and environmental performance by achieving a B Impact Assessment score of 80 or above and passing our risk review. Gaze Burvill scored 91 points.
- Make a legal commitment by changing their corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders, and achieve benefit corporation status if available in their jurisdiction.
- Exhibit transparency by allowing information about their performance measured against B Lab’s standards to be publicly available on their B Corp profile on B Lab’s website.
According to Gaze Burvill, becoming a B Corp certified company reflects a number of achievements including their work with the Woodland Heritage and Horatio’s Garden, along with ongoing improvements to minimising their environmental impact through the use of renewable energy and locally sourced wood, along with supporting the team.
“In a world too often overshadowed by negative stories, B-Corp companies are not only a source of inspiration but also hope. We are delighted that after a two year journey we have joined this influential and growing community and we hope that through our actions we will encourage others to do the same” said Simon Burvill, Founder and Chief Executive, Gaze Burvill.
