Based in Malvern, Worcestershire, Marie-Thérèse has a foundation in graphic design with a degree from Norths Staffordshire University in Multi Disciplinary design. Born to a family of horticulturists, gardeners, bird watchers and keen walkers, she draws and observes her surroundings, framed by the Malvern Hills. Marie-Thérèse’s main discipline is batik – the ancient Indonesian art-form of layering melted wax and water based dyes on cotton to create delicate and exquisite designs.
Nick Hamilton owner of Barnsdale Gardens, said “We were lucky enough to have Marie-Thérèse spend a couple of weeks with us at Barnsdale Gardens last year. We cannot wait to see the special ‘Barnsdale Gardens Batik Collection’ in June. Our customers can take a memory of our gardens away with them in the form of some of her original batik art, drawings, or even a lampshade”
Marie-Thérèse said, “I’m currently working away on a series of designs for the Barnsdale collection, which has been inspired by the amazing gardens. Each artwork will be unique to this special place, seen through my eyes as an artist. The thing that inspires me most about Barnsdale is how many butterflies, birds and bees live alongside the flowers, shrubs and grasses. The hues from each garden area are different too, offering so many fabulous colour combinations.”
The Marie-Thérèse solo exhibition, will take place at Barnsdale Gardens, from the 15th – 30th of June.
