The National Garden Scheme, founded in 1927, raises funds for nursing and health charities through the opening of over 3500 exceptional private gardens in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands. As the Prince of Wales, The King became Patron of the National Garden Scheme in 2002, succeeding his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.
“We are delighted to announce that His Majesty the King will continue as Patron of the National Garden Scheme,” says National Garden Scheme Chairman, Rupert Tyler. “His Majesty was Patron of the National Garden Scheme as The Prince of Wales from 2002 and we are extremely grateful that he will continue in the role as King Charles III.”
Speaking about his role as Patron, His Majesty said:
“For me, as Patron, the wonderful thing about the National Garden Scheme is its unique blend of Britishness – the marriage of nursing and gardens; the exemplary role of volunteers; the cumulative fundraising power of small events; the championing of local community activity and the celebration of what gardens can do for the benefit of us all. So I can only wish you all another happy year of garden visiting.”
