The Design Guild Mark was established in 2008 and is intended to raise the profile of British industrial design and to recognise excellence in this discipline. Judged by an independent panel of experts, furniture design entries are judged on; innovation, function, form, brand, and sustainability. The judges includes experts such as; Daniel Aram, Managing Director of ARAM and Jeremy Myerson, Professor Emeritus at the Royal College of Art.

The recently B-Corp certified, Gaze Burvill has been previously recognised for the accolade with with their ‘Lizard Lounger’ and ‘Amity Seat’ also awarded the Design Guild Mark. The company is also nominated for the Jonathan Hindle Prize – awarded annually to the most outstanding design, which is to be announced at the Design Guild Mark Awards later this month.

With its structure made from twisting forms, the (two/four seater) Woodland Seat is designed to recall the gentle curves of the sweet chestnut tree – from which it’s made. Gaze Burvill have taken inspiration from the RHS Wisley Battleston Hill chestnut trees with their characteristic meandering trunks.
