The Botanical University Challenge 2024 final

The annual competition sees teams from universities and institutions across the UK and Ireland compete against each other in a series of rounds to test their botanical knowledge.

On the 28th of August, the four finalist teams from the University of Cambridge, Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, the University of Reading and the University of York, will compete to be crowned the champions of Botanical University Challenge (BUC) 2024.

From plant identification to conservation, students showcase their expertise and passion for plant science by competing in the BUC. BUC is a fun and friendly competition between teams of undergraduate & postgraduate students, embracing all aspects of botany – celebrating plants and the next generation of botanists and plant-aware students.

According to the organisers, BUC 2024 was the biggest ever, and pitted 28 teams from Britain and Ireland in a battle of the botanists. Knockout rounds took place on the 14th and 21st February and Quarter Finals on 28th February, with the final taking place on the 28th of August at the Oxford Botanic Garden & Arboretum.

The BUC final will be live streamed on YouTube starting at 2pm.
