Black Arrow is a selection from Knoll’s trials of Pennisetum alopecuroides seedlings and is named for its impressive heads of large, cylindrical, dark and fluffy flowers that have a distinctively tapered, arrow-like tip. These striking flowers from in great quantity from rounded mounds of bright green foliage during high summer onwards.
As with other Knoll Gardens selections, Pennisetum Black Arrow has been undergoing trials both in the garden and on the nursery for some years. Having proved itself to be attractive, healthy and a reliable performer, Knoll Gardens are now in a position to offer the new grass for sale to UK gardeners.
Like all fountain grasses, Pennisetum Black Arrow is happiest in a full sun position with average to dry soils. It is long lived and trouble free but can benefit from an occasional division if and when needed. It is deciduous and will retain its shape for the winter, only requiring the old foliage to be cut to the ground each spring once the worst of the winter weather is past.
Pennisetum Black Arrow is available from Knoll Gardens on site nursery and/or from the 20th of August via their website (2 litre pots @ £12.99).
