Over the last 25 years, the Greenfingers Charity has designed and created nearly 70 gardens in children’s hospices across the UK. These spaces provide a backdrop to those children, families and staff that spend time in hospices.
To ensure these gardens continue to thrive as places of comfort and joy, the Greenfingers Charity is launching the all-new Garden Ambassador programme. This new role invites experienced gardeners to support the maintenance and development of Greenfingers gardens in children’s hospices within their local areas, helping them remain welcoming and accessible for hospice communities.
Garden Ambassadors will play a crucial role by working with Greenfingers and hospice teams to ensure the gardens are well-maintained, providing guidance and support (if needed) to hospice volunteers, and overseeing Greenfingers corporate garden volunteering days. Monthly status reports will help identify any issues and ensure the gardens remain usable and vibrant for everyone who relies on them.
The Greenfingers Garden Ambassador will be responsible for ensuring their local garden continues to be a well-maintained and useable space. Applicants are required to have practical hands-on garden maintenance experience and plant knowledge, their own transport and full driving licence, public liability insurance and DBS (Basic Disclosure).
This is a paid (£200 per day, incl. travel), part-time role with a commitment of one day per month (per garden), and may suit someone who is self-employed and looking to expand their portfolio by supporting a hospice garden into the future.
Neil Sewell, Operations Director at Greenfingers Charity, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to use your gardening expertise to bring joy to families facing incredibly challenging times. Our gardens are sanctuaries of peace and beauty, and by becoming a Garden Ambassador in your local Greenfingers garden, you’ll play a vital role in keeping these special places vibrant and full of life.”
