The London Open Gardens scheme, organised by the charity London Parks and Gardens Trust (LPG), offers access to hidden green spaces in the capital. These hidden gems, usually closed to the public, will open their gates offering an exclusive glimpse into some of London’s most beautiful and historic gardens.
Taking place on the weekend of the 7th – 8th of June 2025, some of the participating gardens include Battersea Roof Gardens, Marlborough House Gardens and the 2024 RHS Chelsea Freedom from Torture Garden, now relocated to Finsbury Park.
Also opening for the scheme is the garden at 10 Downing Street on Saturday, 7th of June – the access for which is available via a free public ballot. The Downing St ballot will be open from 10am on 14th April until 23.59 on 6th May.
Constructed in 1736, the Downing Street garden, steeped in history, has hosted world leaders for nearly 300 years. Visitors on the guided tour be able to explore the garden of the residence, with open lawn and rose beds, originally commissioned by the late Baroness Thatcher.

The LPG explains that the open gardens weekend, isn’t just about seeing beautiful places, but even more so about understanding and protecting London’s green heritage – a capital city where only 18% of green spaces are accessible to public.
Tim Webb, Director of London Parks and Gardens, said “Our mission is to protect London’s green spaces old and new; to ensure they can be enjoyed by future generations and to make them more accessible for everyone to visit and enjoy. So it’s an honour to have Downing Street join us alongside over 100 hidden green spaces, giving people a chance to see inside a garden that otherwise isn’t open to public.”
Each ticket sold supports the work of LPG, enabling the charity to protect London’s historic green spaces throughout the year. Further information and details of the respective gardens opening for London Open Gardens, can be found on the LPG website.
