Known for outdoor sculptures, sundials and water features, David Harber has launched a new, limited edition sculpture, entitled Rush, which draws inspiration from vegetation commonly found in natural lakes.
With its fan-like shape, eluding to the formation of plant structures, the new design looks to harmonise contemporary architectural form with textured surfaces to recreate serene natural environments within curated, green spaces.
Two bronze sheaths, delicately contoured with David Harber’s verdigris finish, envelop the internal stem structure comprising 96 mirror-polished, stainless-steel rods. The stems reflect the surrounding environment in a layered wave pattern, while hand-painted 24-carat gold leaf on the inner surface of the two sheaths creates a balance between the natural world and material craftsmanship. Chosen for their durability and aesthetic contrast, the material elements possess light and texture that change throughout the day, creating a dynamic visual experience.
“The inspiration for Rush came from my travels to the mountains of Portugal, where I spent my days canoeing in natural lakes, quietly soaking up the peaceful atmosphere. Surrounded by wildlife and lush vegetation, the subtle interplay of reeds and their cellulose structures started to fascinate me and ultimately shaped the direction of Rush, ” explained Lior Kristal, Design Director at David Harber.
Rush stands at a height of 2 metres and will be launched at the upcoming RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
