Symbolising the age-old (tulip) bond between the two countries, tulip varieties ‘Gelibolu’, ‘Kızılırmak’ and ‘Anadolu’ were planted in the embassy garden.
Recently featured at a special naming ceremony, the varieties commemorate important dates in Turkish history: “Kızılırmak” represents the 104th anniversary of the acceptance of the Turkish National Anthem; “Gelibolu”, the 110th anniversary of the Gallipoli Victory; and Anadolu, the 105th anniversary of national sovereignty.
The joint planting marks a moment of friendship between the two countries and promise of further cooperation. Present at the occasion were, Mark-Jan Terwindt of Royal Anthos, Arjan Smit of TPN, representatives of Keukenhof, and the new Turkish ambassador, Mrs. Fatma Ceren Yazgan. The ambassador expressed her appreciation for the contribution of the Dutch partners and emphasised the importance of cultural and economic cooperation between the two countries.
“It is an honour to work together on strong business relationships through a thriving icon that connects our countries,” said Mark-Jan Terwindt of Royal Anthos.
The trade association, Royal Anthos, association represents the companies that trade in flower bulbs and nursery stock products in The Netherlands and abroad.
