Effective from the 27th of April and running until the 30th of June, 2027 the government confirmed the tariff suspension on all imported bulbs (commodity code 0601).
This suspension operates on a Most Favoured Nation (MFN) basis, allowing businesses to import bulbs from any country at zero duty. The MFN principle is a concept in international trade that ensures equal treatment among trading partners, requiring that any trade concession granted by one country to another must be extended to all other countries with MFN status. The principle is designed to promote fairness and prevent discrimination in trade agreements.
By suspending the import duties on goods used in domestic production or not grown/produced in the UK in high volumes, UK businesses can remain competitive. For UK businesses trading in bulbs, corms and rhizomes including orchids and hyacinths (in flower), this presents a boost as costs will be lower on account of the lack of import duties.
