With the new acquisition, British Garden Centres (BGC) group now operates 73 centres nationwide – continuing its rapid growth with eight new stores joining the business since the beginning of 2025.
A well known garden centre in the Lake District, Hayes Garden World evolved from a small nursery into one of the largest garden centres in the North of England. The new acquisition will take the name of Hayes Garden Centre and the site will remain open whilst undergoing a brief transition period for rebranding and restocking. According to BGC, the existing team will be retained.
Martin Capell, Owner of Hayes Garden World said “We are delighted to be handing the reigns of Hayes over from one family to another. We would like to thank our wonderful customers for their business over the decades and our loyal team, both past and present, for all their hard work, leadership, commitment, and friendship. This is an exciting time for the business and we wish everybody involved the very best.”
Charles Stubbs, Founder and Director of British Garden Centres, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Hayes Garden World to the British Garden Centres family. Hayes Garden World’s reputation and commitment to quality align perfectly with our values as a family-run business. We look forward to building on its strong foundations. We are grateful to all our suppliers, customers and other stakeholders for supporting us in our continued growth.”
