The 100 year old glasshouses have been restored and underground rainwater tanks installed to water the plants and increase the humidity in the glasshouses. By restoring the glasshouses, they are now able to maintain the temperatures in the glasshouses more efficiently. A new heating system will help the plants in the winter months, while the new blinds will shade the plants in the summer.
Dame Judi Dench gave a touching speech about her long history with Chelsea Physic Garden and she highlighted the power of the Physic Garden to heal minds and bodies, as well as the wellbeing power of plants and nature.
Tony Kirkham, Trustee of the Chelsea Physic Garden thanked staff, trustees, volunteers, consultants, partners, donors and the National Lottery Heritage Fund for making the Glasshouse Restoration Project possible.
