Dr. John Grimshaw appointed Editor-in-Chief of Curtis’s Botanical Magazine

The acknowledged botanist, gardener and author Dr. John Grimshaw will become the 18th editor of the Kew published, Curtis’s Botanical Magazine.

The long-established academic journal, Curtis’s Botanical Magazine provides a forum for botanists and horticulturists, plant ecologists and those with a special interest in botanical illustration.

Founded in 1787, the journal published for the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew by Wiley covers detailed, accessible papers that combine horticultural and botanical information with such topics as the history, conservation, ecology and economic uses of a global range of plants. Established by the botanist and entomologist, William Curtis, who aimed for the magazine to reach a wider audience on the subject of botany, than previous works had intended.

Taking over from Martyn Rix in October, Dr John Grimshaw has been appointed Editor-in-Chief. Grimshaw is an acknowledged botanist, gardener, author, editor Trees and Shrubs Online author and to date, the Director of The Yorkshire Arboretum. Grimshaw has explained his new role for the botanical magazine will mean that he leaves his position as Director of the Yorkshire Arboretum, which he has fulfilled for 12 years.

The Curtis’s Botanical Magazine is available via annual subscription, with hard copies purchasable from Wiley. According to the new Editor-in Chief, the format of the magazine has been retained so that it “would be immediately recognisable to William Curtis”.
