Plants and nature are the focus in the bi-annual, International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) World Green City Awards which aim to recognise the role of city authorities in promoting and supporting greater inclusion of plants and nature in urban environments. Specifically, the awards seek to recognise public that create better city environments, fulfilling local aspirations for improved economic, social and environmental resilience.

Building on previous editions, the 2026 awards will celebrate initiatives such as Chengdu, China’s Urban Green Heart Programme (2024) and City of Hyderabad, India’s ‘Green Garland to the State of Telangana’ (2022).

“The AIPH World Green City Awards has grown from strength to strength since the inaugural edition in 2022. In the past two editions of the Awards we have seen how collective action at the local level can achieve global impact. Cities are champions for the power of plants and nature, that is why all cities are invited to enter the AIPH World Green City Awards 2026,” said Mr Bill Hardy, Chair of the AIPH Green City Committee.

Awards are offered in seven categories, with three finalists and a category winner being selected in each category, and with one Grand Winner selected from the seven category winners.

Entries to the 2026 Awards are now open and cities are invited to make their submissions before the 15th of September 2025 deadline.
