Launching in the spring of 2025, the new Gaze Burvill and National Trust collection represents a shared passion for handcrafted items made in the UK and the cultivation of sustainable woodland as a renewable source. The collaboration will support responsible planting and woodland management in the UK, as well as celebrate the artistry of Gaze Burvill’s makers and designers. A minimum of £10,000 from sales of the collection will also be dedicated to help fund sustainable forestry projects at National Trust locations.
The UK is currently the second largest net importer of wood products in the world, after China, with products – either the wood itself or the manufactured item – usually shipped vast distances. The Gaze Burvill National Trust collection is Made in Britain and certified by Grown in Britain – an organisation promoting a sustainable, certified product cycle for UK grown timbers. The wood used to make the furniture is sustainably-sourced oak from Yattenden and West Dean, 40 miles from the Gaze Burvill workshop in Hampshire.
John Deakin, the Head of Trees and Woodland at the National Trust, said: “The Gaze Burvill National Trust Collection, in particular, draws inspiration from our UK woodlands. These trees are more than just beautiful—they are a vital part of our ecosystems. This furniture celebrates that connection, and every furniture piece sold will contribute to the future planting and management of National Trust woodlands. Well-managed woods are not only better for nature, but they also provide sustainable resources like timber for building homes and furniture. It’s a win-win.”
Charlie Dedman, Gaze Burvill’s Head of design, comments: “The aesthetic draws you in, the cushion-free comfort delights, but the intelligent jointing and timber selection is what you learn to appreciate long term when the furniture is still standing strong many years hence. The National Trust collection builds on over 30 years of technical knowledge and complements Gaze Burvill’s house style of curved components and beautiful silhouettes, marrying inherent oak qualities and state of the art British manufacture.”
Simon Burvill, Founder of Gaze Burvill, comments: “It’s been a pleasure for us to collaborate with this forward-thinking organisation, which shares with us a stringent environmental ethic and appreciation of timeless beauty. We are incredibly proud of the Gaze Burvill National Trust Collection and all it encapsulates, and look forward to sharing it with the public at Chelsea Flower Show 2025”.
The new collection, which includes a side table, a low-long table, three-seater and two-seater chairs, a planter and an armchair, will be available directly from the National Trust and Gaze Burvill from the 3rd of April, and will debut at the 2025 RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May.
