The UK is currently the second largest net importer of wood products in the world, after China, with products – either the wood itself or the manufactured item – usually shipped vast distances.
The new Meon collection by Gaze Burvill is crafted in Hampshire and is made from sustainably managed, Ash from local British woodlands.
For the company, Meon sets a new design and sustainability precedent, honouring their B-Corp certification in October 2024. Gaze Burvill works to a close sourcing cycle, where the wood used is from exact known provenance – often from within a few miles of the workshop.
Founder Simon Burvill, trustee of charity Woodland Heritage, explains, “The B Corp mission is to make a business ‘a force for good in the world’. My mission is to make Meon succeed in that challenge and be part of the new wave of British furniture design, responsibly sourced and superbly manufactured in the UK.”
Meon launches with two collections of tables and chairs in Ash, ‘Purity’ and ‘Levity’. Both collections come in various configurations, to accommodate from two to six chairs, including benches.
