Great Dixter Nurseries: Nursery Assistant

The plant nursery at Great Dixter specialising in the rare and familiar plants, is looking for a new assistant.

The Great Dixter Nursery was started by Christopher Lloyd in 1954, specialising in plants he deemed garden-worthy. The nursery are recruiting for a candidate to assist the Head Gardener and Nursery Manager in maintaining and running the nursery, to grow and maintain plants for the garden and to sell to the public. That will include answering customer enquires and to assist with the teaching within the nursery.

The nursery assistant will perform the daily nursery duties as directed to ensure good quality stock: to carry out propagation, potting on, weeding, dividing stock, pruning and watering, to manage glasshouses and propagation frames. The candidate will prepare potting compost made on site to Great Dixter’s own soil based recipe including sterilisation and supervise volunteers and students and direct them to carry out specific tasks.

Previous horticultural experience is required.
