Horatio’s Garden Scotland Open Day for Scotland’s Gardens Scheme

Horatio’s Garden Scotland, the private garden for people affected by spinal injury, is opening in support of Scotland’s Gardens Scheme.

Horatio's Garden Scotland

Located at the Queen Elizabeth National Spinal Injuries Unit (Queen Elizabeth University Hospital) in Glasgow, Horatio’s Garden Scotland will be opening the garden in support of Scotland’s Gardens Scheme – this Sunday, the 1st of September 2024 from 2-5pm.

The garden, designed by garden designer and RHS Judge James Alexander-Sinclair, was the second Horatio’s Garden to be created and opened in September 2016 at Scotland’s only NHS spinal injury centre. The garden provides a peaceful, yet vibrant, horticultural haven and features a woodland garden filled with striking seasonal blooms, a beautiful collection of Betula pendula trees, as well as artfully planted borders, a courtyard garden, an accessible garden room, a fruitful glasshouse and much more.

Horatio’s Garden in Scotland is cared for by a dedicated garden team, managed by Head Gardener Chelsea Lowe, part-time Garden Administrator Kirsty Warren and Arts Activities Assistant Catriona Beckett, as well as a talented volunteer team.

Scotland’s Garden Scheme raises funds for hundreds of charities each year, supported by volunteers and garden owners around Scotland, through garden gate tickets, plants sales and teas. The scheme was founded in 1931 to raise money for the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland, to help support the Queen’s Nurses, before the creation of the National Health Service.
