
The owners are currently seeking a skilled and enthusiastic gardener to join a small, dedicated team on a private estate surrounding a 17th-century manor house, located close to the charming market town of Thame.
The garden, which opens for the National Garden Scheme and other charitable events, has been featured in publications such as House & Garden and Gardens Illustrated.
The role
The successful candidate will work closely with the Head Gardener and the owners, contributing to the development, maintenance, and care of diverse and beautiful gardens. This role offers the opportunity to be part of a collaborative team in a stunning setting with varied and rewarding work. Key responsibilities:
- General estate and garden maintenance, including woodland and parkland management
- Care of ornamental borders, wildflower meadows, water features, and lawns
- Propagation and greenhouse management
- Kitchen garden and cut flower gardening
- Species-specific pruning, trained fruit trees, wall shrubs, hedges, and topiary care
- Operating and maintaining garden machinery
The candidate
The position is designed for an experienced candidate with ideally a background in working within a large private estate. A minimum Level 2 Horticulture qualification is essential. You will possess a comprehensive range of ornamental and productive gardening skills. You will demonstrate reliability, self-motivation, proactivity, and strong organisational abilities. A flexible, positive, and can-do attitude is paramount, along with a commitment to working respectfully within a family environment.
- Contract: Full-Time, Permanent (37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday)
- Salary: £26,000 – £30,000 per annum (depending on experience)
