Miscanthus Sunset launched by Knoll Gardens

A new Autumn 2024 release, Knoll Gardens describe the new Miscanthus Sunset as an elegant selection from their trials of Miscanthus transmorrisonensis. Named for its tall stems and gently drooping flowers in varying shades of soft pink, which are held high above the foliage. Silver ribbed green foliage gradually deepens to a mix of autumnal oranges.

According to Knoll Gardens, Miscanthus Sunset has undergone extensive trials both in the garden and on the nursery for some years and the resultant cultivar is different in shape and habit than the popular Miscanthus sinensis. Miscanthus transmorrisonensis can be rather variable in character and garden performance, but in the trials, Miscanthus Sunset has proved itself to be both attractive and a reliable performer.

Growing to a height of 1.8 -2.1 metres, Miscanthus Sunset is happiest in full sun in a range of soils, which are not too winter wet. A long lived deciduous grass, trouble-free that will retain its shape for the winter. Old foliage to be cut to the ground each spring once the worst of the winter weather is past.

At Knoll Gardens, the new cultivar can be seen planted in drifts at the bottom of their Long Walk borders and Decennium borders. Miscanthus Sunset is currently available from Knoll Gardens.
