Kudos to Philippa Burough

Many open their gardens to raise funds for charitable organisations such as the NGS, few however manage to haul in a staggering £25,000 – every year.

Ulting Wick garden in Essex

Philippa Burough of Ulting Wick garden goes above and beyond to raise much needed funds for charity. In addition to the various listed openings for NGS Garden Scheme, Philippa receives private groups and coaches filled with keen visitors from all over the country, Europe, the US and Canada. As a given, visitors are provided with ample sweet provisions and able to peruse the generous plants sale – propagated by Philippa and team from garden plants.

The proceeds of her garden open days are shared by the NGS (75%) and All Saints Church in Ulting (25%). According to Philippa, this year’s takings are in line with previous years, although one year they did manage £30,000.

Ulting Wick in Essex is a private garden and has appeared on Gardeners’ World, in the major garden glossies and won best Easter region garden in the NGS/English Garden competition “The Nations Favourite Garden”. Philippa has been a supporter of the NGS for over 20 years.
