Designed by Niwaki founder Jake Hobson, the new waistcoat takes inspiration from Japanese workwear and the classic, traditional British wax jackets worn by gardeners and outdoor enthusiasts. According to Niwaki, the new waistcoat has been crafted for comfort and durability, featuring a dry wax ripstop outer layer, from the Scottish weatherproofing specialists Halley Stevensons (est. 1864), paired with a soft moleskin lining from British textile manufacturer Brisbane Moss (est. 1854).
Handcrafted in Norfolk, Hobson explained the new garments celebrate enduring, slow fashion, British craftsmanship and heritage materials. Thoughtful details enhance the appeal for gardeners, including custom secateurs holder in the main pocket, along with chest and poachers pockets to carry additional tools and other essentials. Considerate extended back length, ensures essential ‘coverage’ when bending down and the ribbed wool collar adds a nod to styling of Japanese baseball jackets.
Designed for all year round wear, the waistcoats come in two colours in sizes S – XL.
