Plant Heritage Conservation Officer

The plant conservation charity are recruiting for a Conservation Officer to manage the conservation activities of the organisation.

Plant Heritage are a national charity working to ensure that the cultivated plants we grow now will be available to future generations for cultural, medical, culinary and aesthetic use. They do so via the National Plant Collection scheme and the Plant Guardians network.

A permanent, full-tim role, the Conservation Manager (CM) is to plan, coordinate and monitor the various plant conservation programmes including the National Plant Collections Scheme, Threatened Plant Programme and Plant Guardians. Provide leadership to Plant Heritage conservation staff through setting clear objectives and regularly monitoring performance. Prepare and manage budgets associated with conservation projects. The CM will advise and report to the Conservation Committee on progress towards meeting the charity’s conservation objectives. Promote the work of Plant Heritage and communicate with members, collection holders, partners and other interested parties. Oversee the development and operation of plant recording systems including Persephone, CMD and the Threatened Plant Programme database.

  • Location: Plant Heritage office, Stone Pine, Wisley, Surrey, GU23 6QD (next to RHS Wisley)
  • Salary: £33,000 – 37,000 dependent on experience.
  • Full time, but possibility to work part time (minimum 4 days per week) with pro rata pay
