Public rallies in support of Woottens of Wenhaston

The crowdfunder campaign organised to safeguard future of the specialist pelargonium, auricula, and iris nursery reached its target in just over 24 hours.

Faced with severe water scarcity, threatening its survival, the nursery Woottens of Wenhaston started a crowdfunder campaign to raise funds for a borehole. Like many other regions across the United Kingdom, Suffolk is grappling with severe drought conditions, which in addition to losing their prime source of water, rendered the specialist nursery in severe trouble.

In response to the water scarcity crisis, Woottens of Wenhaston initiated a crowdfunding campaign to secure funding for the construction of a borehole. The nursery had lost its primary water source, which in addition to the severe drought conditions in Suffolk, left it with insufficient water to sustain its operations and manage the business effectively.

The public headed their pressing plea for assistance and within a timeframe of just over a day, the target of £20,000 was reached. To date, a total of 409 donations were made, generating £20,323. It is endearing to see that the public not only appreciate, but also understand the value of our specialist nurseries and the many hardships they endure to operate.

Owners, Gillian and Jenny Stafford, said: “Our minds are completely blown. To say that we are overwhelmed by the incredible generosity and speed of donations is truly an understatement. Please bear with us while we process the enormity of what has just happened — your kindness, support, and belief in what we do has moved us more than we can say. We are filled with hope, gratitude, and an even stronger determination to keep Woottens thriving. From the bottom of our hearts — thank you.”
