Known to many for her emotive garden photography, Rebecca Bernstein has decided to put down her camera and pursue a new career as a garden designer.

Launched in October 2024, the new Rebecca Bernstein Garden Design studio has been delivering projects in the South West and the Cotswolds. The studio undertakes a variety of domestic garden design projects, from small urban gardens to large rural schemes. Bernstein’s designs lean towards the rectilinear and contemporary, balanced with natural, textured planting.

A creative at heart, Bernstein graduated from the University of Cardiff in the late 90’s with a degree in Fine Art Sculpture. Vital lessons learned such as the exploration of conceptual ideas, working in three dimensions and using different building materials, particularly steel are now being put to use in her garden designs.

As a successful editorial garden photographer, Bernstein has enjoyed the privilege of spending extensive time, documenting some of the countries most beautiful gardens for magazines, newspapers and designers – providing her with the best possible insight into the world of garden design.

“I’ve seen in detail what works well in design, coupled with my past experience in the arts this all goes to inform the design work I’m doing now. The new business brings both my love of nature and spacial design together. As an art student we talked about ‘site specific’ work, my practice as a garden designer is all about the specifics of the site or location, harmonising planting and landscaping with existing architecture is key,” explained Bernstein.

Based in Central Bristol, Bernstein provides garden design services across Gloucestershire, Somerset, Wiltshire, and the Cotswolds.
