RHS launches Chatbotanist

The Royal Horticultural Society launches an AI chatbot to provide advice for members via their computer or phone.

ChatBotanist is a new gardening service, designed to provide RHS Members and (later) RHS Grow App users with expert gardening advice. The bespoke AI-enabled tool was developed with digital transformation company Publicis Sapient, whom also developed the RHS Grow app which launched in May 2023.

The new RHS Chatbotanist utilises RHS’s knowledge and expert advice providing RHS members with reliable, validated gardening information at their fingertips. The RHS Chatbotanist is a holistic service powered by generative AI algorithms, enabling users to discover and find supportive content. The algorithm has been trained on the output of RHS’s horticultural advice over the last 5 years, to answer gardeners’ questions by its collective expertise via an AI-enabled chat.

Chris Moncrieff, RHS Head of Horticultural Information and Advice, said: “We love nothing more than sharing our top gardening tips and advice with as many people as possible, be that through this new RHS ChatBotanist or face to face in our gardens or at our shows.

ChatBotanist will be available for free for RHS members or for a small monthly fee.
