Following the success in 2024, the Serge Hill Project’s second, one-day symposium, entitled ‘A Safe Green Space: Nature and Play’ explores a topic at the heart of the project’s mission, namely how nature and gardens can radically transform people’s health, wellbeing, creativity and play.
Delving deep into the impact nature play has on development, creativity and wellbeing, the symposium explores why it matters, examine how our innate sense of play can fade and discuss ways to put nature play back into the centre of children and adult daily lives.
The Symposium will take place on the 18th of June, in the Apple House eco barn which forms the heart of The Plant Library at the Serge Hill Project in Hertfordshire. The event will feature innovative and creative experts in the field of design, physiotherapy, play-workers and artists. Funds generated will go to supporting the Serge Hill Project.
Speakers include:
- Caroline Essame, Founder of Developmental Play and author of Why Play Matters and Why Nature Matters
- Emma Spencer, Informal Learning Manager at Yorkshire Sculpture Park
- Dr. Sue Stuart-Smith, Psychotherapist, Psychiatrist and author of The Well Gardened Mind
- Johanna Tagada Hoffbeck, Founder of The Gardening Drawing Club
- Penny Wilson, Playworker at Assemble Play and author of Play Works
- Mia Witham, Swedish Landscape and Garden Designer
