Founded in 2023 by Lucy Hutchings and Kate Cotterill, She Grows Veg was set up with a mission to bring the very best heirloom vegetable seeds to the UK. To date, the company has an impressive collection of over 200 unusual seed varieties. The seed ranges are exclusively heirloom and open pollinated, making their offering unique on the market.
To date the focus has very much been on colourful, appetising vegetables, but the company has now extended their seed range to include herbs. The new herb range consists of unusual varieties such as Coriander Confetti, Fino Fennel, Hamburg Turnip Rooted Parsley and Peach Margarita Agastache, but also classics “that no self respecting herb garden should be without” such as Greek Oregano, Lovage and Sage. The range is based on plants that Hutchings and Cotterill have grown, cooked with and loved for many years.
“We approached the curation of this range with the same approach that we built the rest of our range, seeking out plants that offer a little something more than just great tasting leaves. For example, our Mountain mint has all the fresh minty flavour you could ask for, but it is much prettier than standard mint and does not spread and become invasive which is a huge issue with the mint family. Our Agastache can also be used as a cut flower, our thyme has an aroma of orange oil, we even have an heirloom variety of parsley that will also give you a root crop at the end of the season,” explained, co-founder Lucy Hutchings.
According to Hutchings the feedback the range has exceeded expectations and will be developed further “We have only just started to scratch the surface of the array of amazing and little known herbs that are out there, so we will now be on a journey of discovery to find ever more inspiring culinary delights to share with SGV fans. Watch this space,”she added.
