Taking place on the 5th of October 2024, UK Fungus Day brings together experts and enthusiast to share vital knowledge about the importance of fungi, inspire to help preserve native fungi, and improve our scientific knowledge of these unique and remarkable organisms.
In its 11th year, UK Fungus Day is organised by the British Mycological Society’s (BMS) Fungal Outreach and Education Committee organises UK Fungus Day, to deliver, support and promote various events and activities, running concurrently across the United Kingdom.
The first UK Fungus Day took place in 2013, when groups of volunteers invited the public to join them on excursions to find and record local fungi. Since then, the event has grown significantly, involving universities showcasing their research, museums highlighting their fungi collections and local groups running fungi related events. Events are taking place at (amongst many others) at RHS Wisley, Winkworth Arboretum, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, the National Botanic Garden of Wales and the University of Bath.
UK Fungus Day provides opportunities to discover more about fungi through art and performance, online talks, crafts and creations, blogs, quizzes and competitions. For more information and a run down of all the various events being held on the day, we refer you to the BMS.
