Now in its 11th year, the annual Allett Creative Stipes Competition encourages lawn enthusiasts across the globe, to use their lawns to design creative, eye-catching designs that show off their craftsmanship and dedication to grass maintenance.

According to Allett Mowers, the entries this year were nothing short of spectacular, reflecting the passion and innovation of the global lawn community. Along with a specialist judging panel, the 2023 champion, Tim Sanken chose the winning entry and ranked the top entries.

The 2024 winning entry by Benjamin Fry, from Essex, was an impressive zebra, with precise striped pattern which the judges found to be original, highly artistic, visually striking and flawlessly executed. According to the judges, the design is well integrated into the garden space, framed beautifully by the flowers and surrounding pathways. “The pattern looks almost like a shadow or a three-dimensional illusion which makes it stand out even more,” explained the judges.

“Just a unique design and creative incorporation of the contours of the surrounding landscape. This design literally and figuratively embodies the essence of the “Creative Stripes” competition,” said Tim Sanken.

Equally impressive, the 2024 runner up was the paramedic, Dan Milne from Ontario in Canada with his bold and distinctive, curved pattern on the most enviable parcel of turf. The third prize, went to Carl Kent from Leicester with his splendid, sports logo of Leicester City Football club. Kent created his masterpiece with a cunning handmade, plywood cut stencil for the badge and much subsequent careful rolling, brushing and mowing.
