Founded in 1994, the charity organisation, Woodland Heritage works to improve the way in which trees are grown, maintained and harvested in the UK. Looking after acres of woodland and working with people in forestry, (cabinet) makers, education and campaigning, the charity champions the good use of home-grown timber from sustainable, productive woodlands for the benefit of present and future generations.
Starting in June 2025, Woodland Heritage has started a new project to bring the message of the positive impacts of sustainable and productive woodlands to a larger bigger audience.
The Open Woods & Workshops consists of a network of woodlands and workshops that will be hosting open days across the UK – including forestry estates and smaller woodlands, tree nurseries and sawmills, artists and architect’s studios, furniture factories and makers.
Some of the hosts for 2025 include; Duchy of Cornwall, John Makepeace, the Architectural Association at Hooke Park, Gaze Burvill, Witherslack Estate, Mowat & Co, Treske and Albion Sawmills.
