Chelsea Physic Garden: Herbaceous & Hardy Manager

The historic Chelsea Physic is looking to recruit a Herbaceous & Hardy Manager to develop the botanic garden’s outdoor collections.

The Chelsea Physic Garden

Established in 1673, the Chelsea Physic Garden is one of the oldest and most respected botanic gardens in Europe. It is the oldest in London, and only surpassed in age, in England, by Oxford Botanic Garden. The garden is managed by the independent Chelsea Physic Garden charity set up in 1983, to promote and preserve the four-acre garden.

The Herbaceous & Hardy Manager will collaborate with the Head and Deputy Head of Plant Collections to develop the outdoor collections, ensuring they are displayed to the highest standards. The successful candidate will possess excellent knowledge of herbaceous plants and be motivated to play a practical role in future-proofing our collections against climate change and soil degradation. The individual will be enthusiastic and knowledgeable about ecological gardening and capable of creating stunning horticultural displays. The horticultural team is focused on renewing and refreshing the outdoor collection to address contemporary challenges in our four-acre, Grade I listed, 350-year-old botanical garden.
