RHS Grow Food Anywhere

A book for gardeners who want to enjoy growing edibles, no matter what size, shape, weather conditions or soil type on their plot.

Grow Food Anywhere Book, written by Lucy Chamberlain

Following the principle of right crop, right place, expert gardener and vegetable-grower, Lucy Chamberlain breaks down the garden environments into seven zones, from sunny and sheltered through to shady and dry, to show what each area of a garden can offer for plants, with differing levels of sun, soil, moisture, and more.

Chamberlain helps readers to identify and map the zones of your space, make the most of the natural conditions, collect water, use a greenhouse effectively, and understand the basics of what’s happening in the soil. With photographs of crops, diagrams of each zone, and a trouble-shooter guide to managing plant problems, this book will truly enable gardeners to grow food anywhere.

According to Chamberlain, the benefits of her approach will:

  • Conserve resources – use less fertiliser and water, and avoid excess intervention
  • Protect the environment – adding feeds unnecessarily can harm the wider environment
  • Gain better harvests – understand crops, which will be healthier and provide heavier yields
  • Feel more connected to the garden – learn to ‘read’ your plot to choose edibles that will flourish there

Everyone can grow fruits and vegetables that will thrive in their space, large or small. Including varieties of vegetables, fruits, herbs, edible flowers, and crops in pots – from favourites like chilis and figs to honeyberry, wasabi, agretti, and amaranth.

RHS Grow Food Anywhere (DK Living) will be released on the 2nd of January 2025.
