The main aim of the Knepp Rewilding Project is to engage people with nature, stimulate broader public interest in nature recovery and species reintroductions, and collect and collate scientific data to demonstrate the biodiversity gains of rewilding. The Safari Manager will therefore work closely with the Lead Ecologist, the Campsite Manager, assisted by the Safari Administrative Assistant, to ensure an enjoyable visitor experience and ensure the ongoing development of safari offerings. Knepp organise around 450 annual safaris and safari visitor numbers top at around 10,000.
The successful candidate will co-ordinate a busy seasonal schedule of safaris and a team of fifteen+ ecologist guides in a well-established eco-tourism business and help manage the smooth running of garden visits and tours, alongside other visitor opportunities.
The role is diverse and will include everything from improving the website booking journey to establishing new safari and workshop offerings, through to the day-to-day supervision of the safari guide team, ensuring customer satisfaction, business performance and working in partnership with the new Wilding Kitchen over customer catering.
The successful candidate will have exceptional organisational skills, have a good knowledge of visitor experience management and will be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills. They will be hard working, conscientious, organised, and be able to trouble-shoot in time pressured situations. They will be able to clearly and confidently communicate with the safari team, customers and help develop knowledge and enthusiasm within the team with training and social events. An affable nature is vital, as is a passion for conservation and rewilding. The role reports directly to Knepp’s Estate Manager and the Burrell family.
